Colorado: Governor Polis Makes Three El Paso and Teller County Appointments: Two Appointments to the 4th Judicial District Court, One to the El Paso County Court

DENVER ~ In a recent announcement, Governor Jared Polis has made three appointments to the 4th Judicial District Court and El Paso County Court in the 4th Judicial District. These appointments aim to fill vacancies and bring new perspectives to the courts.
The first two appointments were made to the 4th Judicial District Court, which serves El Paso and Teller Counties. Mary K. Linden and Amy P. Cullen Cano have been appointed by Governor Polis to serve as judges in this district. Ms. Linden will be filling a vacancy left by the retirement of Honorable David Prince, effective June 1, 2026. She brings with her a wealth of experience, having served as Managing Partner and Co-Founder at Linden Kominek, PC since 2005. Her practice primarily focuses on civil matters and she has previously worked at Vaughan & DeMuro, PC and Mulliken, Gleason, Weiner & Whitney, PC.
Ms. Cano's appointment fills a judgeship created by SB25-024 and will be effective from July 1, 2026. She currently serves as a Magistrate in the 4th Judicial District and has been in this position since 2025. Her docket consists of domestic and civil matters and she has previously worked as a Senior Deputy District Attorney in the same district.

In addition to these appointments, Governor Polis also announced the appointment of Douglas G. Bechtel to the El Paso County Court in the 4th Judicial District. Mr. Bechtel will be filling a vacancy left by the retirement of Honorable Steven Katzman on May 27, 2026. He brings with him extensive experience in criminal and civil matters, having served as an El Paso County Court Magistrate since 2024 and as a Deputy District Attorney in the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office from 2005 to 2024.
Mr. Bechtel earned his B.S. from the University of Illinois in 1994 and his J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2006. His appointment is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the El Paso County Court.
These appointments by Governor Polis aim to strengthen the judiciary system in the 4th Judicial District and bring experienced and qualified individuals to serve as judges. The new appointees will bring diverse backgrounds and perspectives to their roles, ensuring fair and just decisions for the community they serve.
