Colorado: Governor Polis Announces Cabinet Update

DENVER ~ In a recent announcement, Governor Polis of Colorado revealed that David Edinger will be stepping down from his positions as Executive Director and Chief Information Officer at the Office of Information Technology (OIT). Taking his place will be Sarah Tuneberg, the current Deputy Executive Director for Digital & Delivery. Tuneberg will officially begin her new role on June 1st, with Edinger staying on to support the transition until his last day on June 11th.
Governor Polis expressed his gratitude for Edinger's service to the state and praised his commitment to improving technology for agencies and citizens. He also expressed excitement for Tuneberg's leadership and her ability to continue moving Colorado forward in terms of technology services. He wished Edinger all the best in his future endeavors and looked forward to seeing what Tuneberg will accomplish during her time in office.
Edinger has been serving as CIO and Executive Director since November 2023. During his tenure, he oversaw the expansion of broadband infrastructure in the state, implemented technology accessibility standards for public entities, and initiated a large-scale realignment that is now being completed with this announcement. Reflecting on his time in office, Edinger stated that it has been an honor to serve the people of Colorado and contribute to making the state a better place for everyone. He believes that Tuneberg is the right person to lead OIT through its next phase of transformation.

Tuneberg has a strong background in public service, having previously led initiatives to rapidly scale Colorado's COVID-19 response, including implementing the Exposure Notification Express Service and expanding testing capacity within just four months. She has also returned to public service multiple times throughout her career, most recently in 2024 when she led the Colorado Digital Service. She has been serving as Deputy Executive Director at OIT since 2026 and played a key role in architecting this realignment.
Tuneberg expressed her excitement about taking on this new role and leading OIT through a genuine transformation. She believes that it is not just about refreshing the department, but rather rebuilding it from the ground up with a focus on delivery and outcomes in service to the people of Colorado. She sees it as an honor to have the opportunity to lead this important work.
