City of St. Louis Extends Application Deadline for Private Property Assistance to Feb. 28

~ The City of St. Louis has announced an extension of the deadline for private property assistance applications to February 28th. This decision was made in order to give residents more time to complete their applications and receive help with any missing or incomplete information. The city will also continue to remove tornado debris placed by the curb until the end of February.

Private property assistance includes a range of services such as stabilization, repair work up to $50,000, demolitions, and debris removal. It is strongly encouraged for residents to apply early as many applications require follow-up or additional documentation. By submitting their applications early, recovery staff will have more time to review and work with residents before the final deadline.

Applications can be completed online at app.stlrecovers.com or in person at the STLRecovers Outreach Center located at 4401 Natural Bridge Ave. The center is open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For those who prefer assistance over the phone, they can call 833-925-0977.

To provide another option for applying, the Recovery Office will be hosting a community meeting and resource fair on Monday, February 17th from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the O'Fallon Park Rec Complex. At this event, residents can receive help completing their private property assistance application and connect with resources for shelter, housing, legal assistance, food, utilities, home repairs, and mental health support.

Residents are advised to bring a valid government-issued ID and their property insurance policy and claim information if they are insured. Other documents that may be required include proof of ownership, insurance documents, death or marriage certificates, proof of name change, articles of incorporation, divorce decree, power of attorney with real estate authorization, and trust documents.

For those who are unsure if they qualify for assistance or need help gathering the necessary documents, it is still encouraged to apply or attend an in-person event. The Recovery Office will also be holding additional community neighborhood pop-up events in the near future.

In addition to the extension of the private property assistance deadline, the City has also extended the right-of-way debris removal program until February 28th. This will give residents more time to place tornado debris at the curb for pickup. The City has been continuously removing tornado debris placed by residents since the tornado hit. It is important to note that this program is separate from private property debris removal and requires an application to the private property assistance program as the City cannot enter private property without a right-of-entry agreement.
