~ The City of Springfield is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and preparedness of its community by hosting a Crisis Leadership Summit for Preparedness. The event, in collaboration with the Springfield Fire Department and Springfield Police Department, will bring two experts from Harvard University to provide instruction on crisis management to local leaders.

Scheduled for October 30th at the University Plaza Convention Center, the summit will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a registration fee of $50. Interested individuals can register at bit.ly/sgfsummit or through links provided on the city's official website and those of the fire and police departments.

The summit is open to senior leaders from various sectors including government, business, healthcare, education, nonprofits, and community organizations. The aim is to equip these leaders with strategies for effectively navigating crises with clarity, confidence, and collective strength.

The program for the summit has been developed by the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative (NPLI), a joint effort between Harvard University's T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Kennedy School of Government. Facilitated by NPLI co-founder Leonard Marcus, Ph.D., and associate director Eric McNulty, M.A., both members of Harvard's faculty, participants can expect nationally recognized programming.

According to Fire Chief David Pennington, this opportunity arose while exploring professional development options for his department's staff. Realizing that the entire community could benefit from this instruction, he saw it as an opportunity to bring world-class training without having to travel outside the region.

The summit will cover various topics such as cross-sector collaboration in building partnerships between public, private, nonprofit, and community stakeholders; leadership development tools for effective crisis management; strategic preparedness at all levels of leadership; resilient systems thinking; and inclusive leadership that considers diverse perspectives for equitable preparedness and recovery.

Chief Pennington believes that through shared learning and strategic dialogue, the summit will create empowered leaders, stronger networks, and a more prepared community. This event offers a unique opportunity for senior executives and community decision-makers to gain actionable insights and connect with peers while advancing the region's holistic approach to preparedness.
