City of Naperville Seeks Applicants for 2027 Grant Opportunities

NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ Naperville, Illinois - The City of Naperville has announced that they will be accepting applications for four grant programs to fund projects in 2027. These grants include the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Special Events & Community Arts (SECA), Social Services Grants (SSG), and Opioid Remediation.

The CDBG provides funding for housing, community development, and infrastructure projects. The SECA grant supports cultural and artistic initiatives, while the SSG aids organizations providing essential social services to residents. The Opioid Remediation grant supports efforts to combat the ongoing opioid crisis.

Community Grants Manager Miranda Barfuss expressed excitement about the opportunity for organizations to bring meaningful projects to life. "With more than $2 million available through City of Naperville grant programs, we encourage eligible groups to attend a workshop, explore the funding opportunities and apply," she said.

To help applicants understand eligibility, funding criteria, application processes, and submission requirements, city staff will be hosting workshops at the Naperville Municipal Center on 400 S. Eagle St. The SECA workshops are mandatory for applicants and will be held on August 20 at 10 a.m. and August 24 at 6 p.m. An optional pre-application workshop for CDBG, SSG, and Opioid Remediation grants will take place on September 10 at 11 a.m.

Applications for SECA grants will open on September 4 and are due by noon on October 2. Applications for SSG and Opioid Remediation grants will open on September 10 and are due by 5 p.m. on October 9. CDBG applications will also open on September 10 but have a later deadline of October 23 at 5 p.m.

During the workshops, evaluation and scoring criteria will be shared to help applicants strengthen their submissions. Organizations are allowed to submit multiple applications for each grant program. However, all grants are reimbursement-based, meaning grantees must submit a Request for Payment form with expense documentation. Grantees can choose to receive a lump sum payment or payments in increments as expenses occur.

The impact of these grants on the Naperville community is wide-ranging. Previous projects funded by these grants include mental health counseling services for Naperville youth, a roof replacement for a Community Integrated Living Arrangement (CILA) that provides housing for adults with severe physical disabilities, treatment services for individuals with substance use disorder, and funding for a full performance season for a local nonprofit theater company.
