City of Long Beach Celebrates Earth Month with Events Throughout April

Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach is celebrating Earth Month by hosting a series of fun, free and family-friendly events, workshops and volunteer opportunities for residents throughout April. Festivities will highlight a range of sustainable topics such as supporting local wildlife, reducing waste and stewarding community spaces.
"Earth Month is a time for celebration and activation," said Mayor Rex Richardson. "This time of year reminds us to appreciate the natural world around us and to take steps to protect our environment for future generations. I encourage the community to join in the festivities and learn how we can work together to make Long Beach a more sustainable city."
To commemorate Earth Month 2026, the City has published an Earth Month Calendar to promote a series of community activities and events throughout the month of April, including:
This Earth Month and through May 31, 2026, the Parks, Recreation and Marine Department is also seeking community feedback on the Willow Springs Park Strategic Plan. The goal of the plan is to enhance Willow Springs as a natural open space, preserving wetlands, supporting native habitat, and creating opportunities for walking and enjoying nature. The online community survey is available at lbcity.info/willowspringsparksurvey.

To commemorate Earth Month 2026, the City has published an Earth Month Calendar to promote a series of community activities and events throughout the month of April, including:
- Brooms Across West Long Beach, Saturday, April 11, 9 a.m. to noon – The Community Development Department invites residents to join their cleanup effort in West Long Beach. Volunteers can meet at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and San Gabriel Avenue. Learn more about the event here.
- Earth Month Recycling Drives, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Join the Parks, Recreation & Marine Department and Retail Marketing Services Inc.'s CRV CONNX recycling program to bring new use out of old recyclable items. Community members are encouraged to collect eligible California Redemption Value (CRV) redemption items, such as bottles, cans, boxes and pouches made of aluminum, glass, plastic and bi-metals, to donate. Proceeds generated from the drives will be donated to Food Finders Inc. to help support food distribution sites in Long Beach. Drives will be held on Saturday, April 11, at El Dorado Nature Center (7550 E. Spring St.) and Saturday, April 25, at Cal Rec Community Center at McBride Park (1550 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.).
- Earth Day Crafternoon, Wednesday, April 15, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. – Visit the El Dorado Neighborhood Library (2900 Studebaker Rd.) for an Earth Day-themed story-time and craft activity. This event is suitable for ages 6 and up. Learn more about the event here.
- Westside Clean & Green at Cabrillo High School, Saturday, April 18, 9 a.m. to noon – Residents are encouraged to volunteer for this monthly cleanup effort to help remove blight and waste and improve air quality, livability and community health. - Earth Day Coastal Cleanup at Belmont Pier, Saturday, April 18, 10 a.m. to noon – Help protect our coastline by participating in the Parks, Recreation and Marine Department's Earth Day Coastal Cleanup. Participants are encouraged to bring their own collection bucket or bag and to meet on the sand, east of Belmont Pier. Rain cancels. Learn more about the event here.
- Earth Day Celebration, Wednesday, April 22, 2 to 5 p.m. – Join the Long Beach Health Department's Tobacco Education & Prevention Program for a free, all-ages event at Recreation Park (4900 E. 7th St.) highlighting how tobacco litter harms the planet. This event will feature free community resources, a cigarette butt clean-up, games and more. Learn more about the event here.
- Earth Day Art Jam, Wednesday, April 22, 3 to 5 p.m. – Stop by the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library Courtyard (5870 Atlantic Ave.) to connect with nature and the community by creating collaborative chalk art and upcycling old books into junk journals. This event is for teens ages 13-18. Learn more about the event here.
- Earth Day Celebration at City Hall, Thursday, April 23, noon to 1 p.m. – Join the City of Long Beach for an Earth Day celebration at City Hall (411 W. Ocean Blvd.). The event aims to provide tips and resources to help residents adopt sustainable habits and support the City's Climate Action Plan. Learn more about the event here.
- Fifth Annual City Nature Challenge, Saturday, April 25, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Participate in this internationally celebrated challenge by identifying local flora and fauna and sharing those observations with other cities across the world via the iNaturalist app. Join at Willow Springs Park (2745 Orange Ave.) to explore trails, help identify wildlife and take part in fun activities that celebrate Long Beach's native habitat. - Long Beach Fixit Clinic, Saturday, April 25, noon to 3 p.m. – The City is hosting Long Beach Fixit Clinics throughout 2026 at no cost to Long Beach residents. These events offer community members a chance to repair their broken household items with help from skilled volunteer Fixit coaches.
