City of Idaho Falls to Join "Juneteenth: An Evening at the Colonial"

~ The City of Idaho Falls has announced its participation in the upcoming event, "Juneteenth: An Evening at the Colonial." This event, organized by the Greater Idaho Falls Juneteenth Organizing Committee and community partners, will take place on Friday, June 19 at the Colonial Theater in downtown Idaho Falls.
The evening will showcase musical performances and storytelling that highlight the historical and cultural significance of Juneteenth. It will also explore themes in American and African American music throughout the 20th century. The event will kick off with a proclamation read by Mayor Lisa Burtenshaw, accompanied by officials from the City of Ammon and Bonneville County Commissioners office.
Mayor Burtenshaw expressed her excitement for the community to come together to celebrate and reflect on Juneteenth. She stated, "It's an important moment in our nation's history, and we remain dedicated to freedom and equality for everyone."

In addition to the evening program, the Third Annual Heritage Music Festival will be held on Saturday, June 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Riverwalk Bandstand along the scenic Idaho Falls Greenbelt. This festival is hosted by the Greater Idaho Falls Juneteenth Organizing Committee in partnership with various community organizations. Attendees can expect live music performances and informational booths celebrating cultural heritage and promoting community connections.
Juneteenth is a national, state, and local holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Similar to Independence Day, it celebrates freedom and acknowledges ongoing efforts towards achieving liberty, equality, and justice for all.
The City of Idaho Falls encourages all members of the community to attend these events and join in celebrating this important holiday.
