City of Idaho Falls Selects Chris Canfield as Public Works Director

~ Idaho Falls, ID - The City of Idaho Falls has announced the selection of Chris Canfield as the new Public Works Department Director. Pending confirmation from the City Council, Canfield will take on this important role in overseeing the city's infrastructure and essential services.
Mayor Lisa Burtenshaw expressed her confidence in Canfield, stating that he brings a clear understanding of the critical role that Public Works plays in providing residents with clean water, sanitation, sewer, and safe streets. She also commended his knowledge of the city and its organization, as well as his extensive experience with federal grant financing.
Canfield is no stranger to the city or to public service. He has been serving as the Interim Public Works Director since May 2026 and has been with the department for 13 years as Assistant Director. As a native of east Idaho, he brings a deep understanding of the community's needs and has worked on various projects that have improved transportation, water systems, wastewater management, and sanitation services.

With a degree from Idaho State University and a professional engineering license, Canfield also has previous experience working for JUB Engineers and the Idaho Transportation Department. His expertise in construction engineering and traffic management will be valuable assets in his new role.
As Public Works Director, Canfield will be responsible for overseeing all operations, strategic planning, and long-term infrastructure priorities for the department. This includes maintenance and development of streets, water systems, sanitation services, and other essential public infrastructure.
Canfield expressed his enthusiasm for this opportunity to contribute to projects that will have a lasting impact on residents. He looks forward to working alongside the talented team at the City of Idaho Falls and their development partners to solve problems, support smart growth, and continue building a strong community.
