City of Columbia Utilities to host water conservation demonstration for EPA's Fix-a-Leak Week

(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ As the City of Columbia prepares to participate in the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Fix-a-Leak Week, City of Columbia Utilities is taking proactive steps to educate the public on water conservation measures. In an effort to raise awareness about the nearly 1 trillion gallons of water wasted from household leaks each year, Utilities staff will be hosting two events on March 18 and 19.
The first event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Food Bank located at 705 Business Loop 70 West. The second event will be held at City Hall, located at 701 East Broadway, from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 - 3 p.m. These events will feature demonstrations on how to repair leaking toilets and other activities aimed at teaching customers how to identify and fix leaks.

According to EPA, leaks can account for up to 10,000 gallons of water in an average home every year - equivalent to washing 300 loads of laundry. By participating in Fix-a-Leak Week, Americans can help put a stop to this wastage and promote water conservation efforts. City of Columbia Utilities encourages all members of the public to attend these events and learn how they can make a difference in preserving our precious water resources.
