EntSun News/11092666
~ Colorado Springs, CO - The City of Colorado Springs Public Works Department has recently achieved a significant milestone by receiving full accreditation from the American Public Works Association (APWA). This national distinction recognizes the department's commitment to excellence in public works operations, management practices, and service delivery.
The accreditation is a verification that the department adheres to nationally recommended management practices outlined in APWA's Public Works Management Practices Manual. With this achievement, Colorado Springs joins 11 other accredited public works agencies in the state of Colorado, including cities such as Arvada, Aurora, Centennial, Cherry Hills Village, Denver, Golden, Greeley and Northglenn. The Town of Castle Rock and Arapahoe and El Paso counties are also among the accredited agencies.
Richard Mulledy, the Public Works Director for Colorado Springs expressed his pride in this accomplishment stating that it reflects the dedication and professionalism of their employees who serve residents on a daily basis. He further added that their team is committed to delivering high-quality services that keep Colorado Springs safe, connected and moving forward.

The APWA accreditation is awarded for a four-year period and includes ongoing reporting requirements to demonstrate continued compliance and improvement. The process is designed to promote excellence in the management and operation of public works agencies while providing an objective evaluation of programs and services.
The accreditation process consists of five major steps which include self-assessment of agency practices using APWA standards, formal application to the accreditation program, operational improvements to achieve compliance, independent on-site evaluation by APWA reviewers, and final review and accreditation approval by the APWA Accreditation Council.
The City's Public Works Department plays a crucial role in overseeing roadway maintenance, traffic engineering, transit operations, stormwater infrastructure and capital improvement projects that support the community's transportation network and overall quality of life.
