~ The City of Bloomington has recently released its annual Public Safety Report, providing residents with a comprehensive overview of the city's public safety efforts in the year 2025. As per the report, the city has seen a significant increase in demand for public safety services, prompting officials to take a closer look at trends and outcomes.
The report, which includes data from the Bloomington Police Department (BPD), Bloomington Fire Department (BFD), and the Community and Family Resources Department (CFRD), covers various aspects such as calls for service, crime trends, traffic safety, emergency response capacity, alternative response methods, crisis support, and resource navigation.

One of the key highlights of the report is the progress made in terms of staffing. The BFD achieved full staffing across all authorized positions in September 2025 for the first time in a decade. Additionally, BPD welcomed 11 new officers in June 2025 - its largest single recruit class in over 30 years.
Mayor Kerry Thomson expressed her satisfaction with the report, stating that it provides residents with a clearer understanding of how Bloomington's public safety system operates and responds to emergencies. She also emphasized that public safety is not just about emergency response but also includes prevention efforts, staffing levels, training programs, facilities, and partnerships.
