California secures federal assistance to support response to Bain Fire in Riverside County
EntSun News/11092738
~ JURUPA VALLEY, CALIFORNIA - As the Bain Fire continues to ravage Riverside County, California has secured federal assistance to support their response efforts. Governor Gavin Newsom announced today that the state has received a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to aid in suppressing the fire.
The fast-moving fire, which ignited on May 19, 2026 near the La Sierra community, has already burned over 1,375 acres and is threatening several communities in Jurupa Valley, Norco, and Riverside. As a result, evacuation orders have been issued for over 7,000 residents and an additional 24,000 are under evacuation warnings.
Governor Newsom emphasized the importance of working closely with local and state partners to combat the Bain Fire. "California is moving quickly to support Riverside County communities impacted by the Bain Fire," he stated. "From the Sandy Fire in Ventura County to the Bain Fire in and around Jurupa Valley, crews are working around the clock to protect communities and keep families safe."

The FMAG will provide critical resources for firefighters and first responders on the front lines of this devastating fire. It will cover 75% of eligible fire suppression costs for local, state, and tribal agencies involved in responding to the fire.
This is not the first time California has received federal firefighting funds this week. On May 18th, Governor Newsom secured a similar grant for the Sandy Fire in Ventura County.
Caroline Thomas Jacobs, Director of Cal OES (California Governor's Office of Emergency Services), expressed her gratitude for this assistance. "Cal OES is working alongside state and local partners to support response operations on the Bain Fire," she said. "Securing this FMAG helps strengthen ongoing firefighting operations and reinforces our commitment to standing alongside local partners."
As California continues to battle wildfires during this heightened heat and fire weather period, residents are urged to stay prepared and informed. Governor Newsom advises residents to sign up for local emergency alerts, create a wildfire action plan, and pack a go-bag with essentials.

In other news, Governor Newsom has been advocating for disaster recovery and stronger crisis response in Washington D.C. He recently met with EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin to discuss issues impacting Californians, including the ongoing recovery efforts from the Los Angeles fires and pollution from the Tijuana River.
Additionally, it has been reported that taxpayers are facing a $111 million bill for Trump's illegal deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles last year. This unlawful deployment has caused outrage and further highlights the need for stronger crisis response measures.
Governor Newsom also addressed the issue of "California Derangement Syndrome," a term used to describe individuals who consume misinformation from right-wing outlets about California being a dystopian crime-ridden communist wasteland. He emphasized that there are easy cures for this syndrome, such as fact-checking and seeking out reliable sources of information.
