EntSun News/11065192
~ SACRAMENTO - In a historic move, Governor Gavin Newsom signed a series of bills into law today, solidifying California's position as a leader in clean energy and progressive legislation. The governor announced the signing of 30 bills, covering a wide range of issues from attorney's fees to public contracts.
Among the notable bills signed were AB 78, which addresses attorney's fees for book accounts, and AB 223, which focuses on jury selection procedures. Other bills included AB 233, which pertains to alcoholic beverage licenses, and AB 313, which extends student financial aid application deadlines.
Governor Newsom also signed two bills introduced by Assemblymember Michelle Rodriguez. AB 354 establishes the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training while AB 369 addresses emergency services liability. Assemblymember Juan Carrillo's AB 370 aims to protect against cyberattacks on public records under the California Public Records Act.

In addition to these legislative actions, Governor Newsom also made statements regarding recent news in California. He celebrated the state's achievement of powering two-thirds of its energy from clean sources in 2023 - a first in history for any state or nation. He also addressed the court's decision to temporarily block federal immigration agents from making unlawful stops in Los Angeles.
As California continues to endure triple-digit heat and smoky conditions due to wildfires across the state, Governor Newsom urged residents to take precautions and utilize state resources for protection against heat illness.
With these new laws in place and ongoing efforts towards clean energy and progressive policies, California remains at the forefront of change and progress.
