Drama explores personal relationships, mental health, and family dynamics, using magical realism to express mindfulness in intimate relationships, prayerfulness, and a commitment to the land.

POMPTON PLAINS, N.J. - EntSun -- Film Distributor BayView Entertainment is proud to announce the release of Mountain Lion, available on finer streaming video platforms beginning November 25th.

A deeply personal project for writer-director, Brooklyn Demme, it marks the young auteur's first full-length, narrative feature. It is fitting that one of the film's themes is respecting one's heritage, as Brooklyn follows in the footsteps of his Academy Award-winning father, the late writer-director Jonathan Demme.

It is not just filmmaking that was passed down from father to son. With a love of land and people of the world instilled in him by his father, Brooklyn has crafted a story that explores a person's sense of true identity, and what it means to embrace their authentic background, culture, and traditions. As an extension of that identity, the importance of protecting the environment is also highlighted.

Layered on top is an exploration of tricky family dynamics, as main character Miguel, portrayed by Willie Will Rodriguez, struggles with a sister and mother who have acclimated to a different belief system, and awkwardly navigates a burgeoning romance with a co-worker at a nature preserve. With a conflicted heart, a lack of emotional maturity and experience dealing with others, and signs indicating he is on the spectrum, his interactions with his family, girlfriend, and colleagues teeter on the breaking point.

The titular mountain lion also factors into the tale, as a symbolic beacon for the troubled Will. Demme, himself an experienced actor, does double duty as both the lion and the nature preserve attendant who cares for it. Demme the performer was most recently seen in this fall's critically acclaimed, Oscar®-buzzy, One Battle After Another as "Sober Rick."

"Seeing my dad and his colleagues film A Master Builder in six days showed me how with the right team, anything is possible," says Demme. "With deep thanks to the virtuoso cinematographer Quanah Hicks, the Truth 2 Power team shot Mountain Lion in 6 days, too. The performances given by Willie Will Rodriguez, Sage Buchalter, Lily Nin, and Nichia Wepa Morales are relevant to everyone who loves film. I consider this a film of prayer and am grateful it was co-produced with love and respect in association with the Sand Hill Band of Lenape and Cherokee Scheyichbi."
