Boston: Sarah Lawton Announced as Interim Preservation Planner for the South End

~ Boston, MA- The South End Landmark District Commission will have a temporary Preservation Planner while Rachel Ericksen is on leave. Sarah Lawton, who has been working as a Preservation Assistant since 2023, will be stepping into the role.

Lawton has been an integral part of the Office of Historic Preservation, assisting constituents with questions and guiding them through the processes of landmarking properties and applying for design review. She is well-known among the community for her attendance and assistance at monthly public hearings for various commissions such as the Boston Landmarks Commission, Back Bay Architectural Commission, Beacon Hill Architectural Commission, and now the South End Landmark District Commission.

In her temporary position, Lawton will be working closely with Preservation Planner Jackie Vanegas in reviewing design applications submitted to the South End Landmark District Commission. She will also be directly managing the commission's monthly public hearings.

A Boston native from Dorchester, Lawton is a proud alumna of Boston Public Schools and holds a BA in History with a concentration in Public History and a minor in Black Studies from Suffolk University. Currently, she is pursuing a Master of Science in City Planning at Boston University's Metropolitan College.

The South End Landmark District Commission is confident that Lawton's experience and knowledge will serve them well during this temporary transition.
