Boston: Parks Department Hosts February School Vacation Week Activities

~ Boston Parks Department Offers Free Winter Activities for All Ages
As the winter season continues, the Boston Parks Department is offering a variety of free activities for residents and visitors to enjoy. From sports clinics to nature exploration, there is something for everyone to participate in.
One of the upcoming events is the Softball Hitting and Fielding Clinics on Tuesday, February 17 and Wednesday, February 18 at The Bubble at Carter Field. This program, open to teams and individual players of all skill levels, will feature UMass Boston softball players and coaches. Pre-registration is required and can be done through the Boston Parks Department website.
For those interested in learning more about the Park Rangers Mounted Unit, there will be a Stable Tour on Thursday, February 19 at Franklin Park Maintenance Yard. Participants will have the opportunity to tour the facility and learn about how the equine partners are fed, trained, groomed, and prepared for their patrol in the parks. This event is open to all ages.
Another exciting activity offered by the Park Rangers is a Snowshoeing Safari on Thursday, February 19 at William Devine Golf Course Parking Lot. Participants can join in on an hour-long snowshoeing tour (or hike depending on weather) around Franklin Park. A limited supply of snowshoes will be available for use during the event. This activity is recommended for ages 12 and up.

For those interested in meeting one of the equine partners from the Mounted Unit, there will be a Horse-of-Course event on Friday, February 20 at William Devine Golf Course Parking Lot. Attendees can learn about how these horses are fed, groomed, tacked up, and ready for their patrol in the parks. This event is open to all ages.
Baseball fans can also get involved with a Hitting and Fielding Clinic on Thursday, February 19 and Friday, February 20 at The Bubble at Carter Field. This program, featuring UMass Boston baseball players and coaches, is open to teams and individual players between the ages of 10-14. Pre-registration is required.
On Saturday, February 21, the Winter Festival at Franklin Park will take place at William Devine Golf Course & Clubhouse. This festival offers free skating, winter-themed activities, inflatable attractions, and fun giveaways for attendees of all ages while supplies last.
For those looking for a more casual activity, there will be Open Gym sessions on Thursday, February 19 and Friday, February 20 at The Bubble at Carter Field. This is open to students, families, and community members to play pick-up sports such as kickball, wiffleball, soccer, football or run laps. Pre-registration is required.
