Boston: Ceylon Park Improvement Project Receives $1 Million Land And Water Conservation Fund Grant

~ Boston, MA- The Boston Parks and Recreation Department has received a grant to support their plans for the renovation of Ceylon Park, located at 105 Ceylon Street. The 4.3 acre park will undergo improvements to its basketball court, play areas, lighting, and accessibility.

Mayor Michelle Wu expressed her excitement for the transformation of Ceylon Park into a safe and multipurpose community space. She stated, "By transforming Ceylon Park into a safe, resilient, and multipurpose community-space, we are ensuring generations of Dorchester residents and their families can enjoy the green space." The Mayor also thanked state partners for their collaboration in prioritizing these investments in the community.

Interim Boston Parks Commissioner Cathy Baker-Eclipse also shared her gratitude for the grant. She stated that it will support the $4,675,000 million dollar budget earmark for the project and help create a more welcoming and inclusive space for residents of all ages to enjoy. She also thanked the Healy-Driscoll administration and the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs for their continued partnership and support.

The planned renovation includes a new play area with a children's bike loop, a splash pad, picnic tables, an improved basketball court with updated lighting, accessible pathways through the park (which has about 40' of elevation change), new pathway lighting, clearing invasive vegetation, rain gardens, and new trees.

The grant was provided through the Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant Program, managed by the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs. This program was established by Congress in 1964 to safeguard the country's natural areas, water resources, and cultural heritage while providing recreational opportunities. Massachusetts has invested over $144 million in parks and open spaces through LWCF grants since its inception.
