Bloomington: City Seeks Nominations for 2026 Be More Awards Honoring Exceptional Volunteers

~ Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington is calling on the community to recognize and celebrate the outstanding contributions of volunteers by submitting nominations for the 2026 Be More Awards. These annual awards, presented by the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network, aim to honor individuals and groups who have made a lasting impact in Bloomington and Monroe County. Nominations will be accepted until Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

Members of the general public, community organizations, or businesses are encouraged to submit nominations for these prestigious awards. The Be More Awards will be given in eight categories, each recognizing a different aspect of volunteerism.

The Be More Bloomington Award will be presented to an individual or group who has shown excellence in addressing pressing issues such as housing/homelessness, immigration, and food insecurity in 2025. The Be More Creative Award will honor volunteer work within the arts community while the Be More Dedicated Award will recognize an individual or couple over the age of 60 for their lifetime of service.

The Be More Energized Award will celebrate the efforts of an individual or group under the age of 25 while the Be More Engaged Award will acknowledge an individual or group employed at a business or organization who actively participates in volunteer activities and programs on behalf of their employer.

The Be More Impactful Award will honor the volunteer or volunteer group of the year while the Be More Involved Award will be presented to an individual who has volunteered for at least three non-profit organizations for a year or longer. The recipient of this award will also have the opportunity to select which non-profit organization they serve that will receive a cash award.

Lastly, the Be More Phenomenal Award will recognize outstanding leadership through board, commission, or committee involvement.

The selection process for these awards is impartial and fair. Committee members are required to recuse themselves from reviewing any nominations with which they have a personal or professional connection.

All award recipients will be honored at the 2026 Be More Awards celebration ceremony on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. Each recipient will also receive a $1,000 grant award for the primary non-profit organization they serve, thanks to the generous support of the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County.
