Bloomington: City Invites Public Input on Revised Design for Indiana Avenue Safety Improvements Project

~ Bloomington City Hall will be hosting a public meeting on Thursday, March 12 to discuss the latest proposed design for the Indiana Avenue Safety Improvements Project. The meeting, organized by the City of Bloomington Planning and Transportation Department, is part of the fourth round of public outreach for the project.

The meeting will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at Bloomington City Hall, located at 401 North Morton Street. The purpose of this meeting is to gather feedback from community members on the revised design for the project. This design has been informed by previous public meetings, surveys, and conversations with stakeholders.

Attendees will have the opportunity to review updated concepts and provide their input, which will play a crucial role in shaping the final design. The Indiana Avenue Safety Improvements Project focuses on the stretch between Smith Avenue and 10th Street. This area serves as a vital connection for all residents, linking downtown Bloomington with Indiana University's campus.

According to Bloomington's Safe Streets for All Action Plan, Indiana Avenue has been identified as a "Highest Priority" corridor due to recent fatal and severe injury crashes, as well as public feedback. The current design aims to improve pedestrian safety by creating safer crossings, reducing motor vehicle speeds, increasing accessibility for all users, and improving bicycle connectivity while maintaining on-street parking in highly utilized areas.
