Passed by a bipartisan vote of 195-6, HR 441 commemorates the 130th anniversary of the historic Battle of Adwa, where Ethiopian forces decisively defeated a colonial Italian army on March 1, 1896. The victory secured Ethiopia's sovereignty and became a defining symbol of freedom, self-determination, and resistance against colonial domination throughout Africa and the world.

The Pennsylvania House's recognition of Adwa Victory Day honors not only a pivotal moment in Ethiopian history but also a milestone in the global struggle for human dignity, national independence, and equality among nations.
