AEP Recognized as One of America's Best Employers for Diversity
EntSun News/11022894
COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 23, 2024 ~ Columbus, Ohio - American Electric Power (Nasdaq: AEP) has been named one of Forbes' Best Employers for Diversity in 2024. The prestigious list was developed based on an independent survey from a sample of over 170,000 U.S.-based employees. Participants were asked to anonymously rate their organizations on criteria such as age, gender, ethnicity, disability and sexual orientation equality. Respondents belonging to underrepresented groups were also given the opportunity to nominate other organizations that they felt demonstrated diversity-related best practices.
AEP's Chief Human Resources Officer, Phil Ulrich, expressed pride in the company's recognition for their efforts in creating a culture of inclusivity and respect for all employees. "We will continue to focus on developing a workforce that is reflective of the communities we serve," said Ulrich.

One of AEP's key initiatives in promoting diversity and inclusion is through their nine employee resource groups. These groups empower employees to engage and lead in a diverse and inclusive work environment. Throughout 2023, these groups hosted various events across AEP locations and actively participated in community initiatives such as the Special Olympics, back-to-school drives, and educating employees on important cultural events like Juneteenth and Black History Month.
Janelle Coleman, Vice President of Community Engagement and Inclusion at AEP, looks forward to another successful year as employees expand their networks across the company and increase their cultural awareness. "Our goal is to create a sense of community among our employees," said Coleman.
AEP's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion extends beyond their internal practices. As one of the nation's largest electricity producers with approximately 29,000 megawatts of diverse generating capacity including renewable energy sources, AEP is investing $43 billion over the next five years to make the electric grid cleaner and more reliable. They are also on track to reach an 80% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from 2005 levels by 2030 and have a goal to achieve net zero by 2045.
