70-Year-Old Veteran Rides his Bicycle From Kansas City to San Diego to Raise Awareness

Brett Littrell, founder of Ride for Vets, will reach the halfway point of his 6-month bike ride across the country and touch down in San Diego on June 17.

SAN DIEGO - EntSun -- Founder of Ride for Vets, Brett Littrell, will arrive in San Diego after cycling for approximately 3,000 miles to meet with local veteran organizations, Paws for Purple Hearts and Adjoin, to connect on important veteran issues, share resources, and strengthen support for the veteran community across the country. Ride for Vets and Adjoin will meet at the Paws for Purple Hearts facility, located at 1022 West Morena Blvd, Suite H, San Diego, CA 92110, for a tour that is free and open to the community on Wednesday, June 17, at 3 PM.

Through this self-supported bicycle ride, Ride for Vets is designed to increase the awareness of veteran challenges, focusing on helping veterans transition successfully to civilian life and bringing attention to barriers including housing, employment, mental health, family support, wellness, and community reintegration.

The community is invited to get involved by attending the community tour of Paws for Purple Hearts, riding alongside Brett during his journey, attending an Adjoin event, and learning about other veteran supporting organizations in their area as well as how to get involved with them. After his time in San Diego, Brett will start the second half of his journey back to Kansas City. A ride that will take about another 3,000 miles over the next 3 months. He will be 71 years old when he returns home.

Paws for Purple Hearts is the first organization of its kind to offer Canine-Assisted Warrior Therapy. We began in 2006 as a research program at the prestigious Bergin College of Canine Studies together with the Menlo Park Veterans Administration Medical Center. Paws for Purple Hearts has since evolved into a separate non-profit organization operating with its own 501(c)(3) status.
