100 Million Americans, One Overlooked Problem: Neurogut Wins a Seat in Gastro Incubator
EntSun News/11098100
CHICAGO - EntSun -- The American Gastroenterological Association, founded in 1897 and widely regarded as the leading voice for gastroenterology professionals worldwide, has unveiled the inaugural class of its new incubator program, called "Improving GI Care," created in partnership with the healthcare innovation hub MATTER.
Selection into this cohort represents formal recognition from one of the field's most established medical societies that a startup's technology addresses a genuine, unmet need within digestive disease care. Eleven companies earned spots in this first-ever cohort, chosen from a competitive pool of applicants after a rigorous, multi-stage evaluation process.
Over six months, these startups will receive mentorship, strategic guidance, and access to MATTER's network of healthcare industry connections, culminating in a showcase event at Digestive Disease Week 2026 in Chicago, where they'll present progress to investors and potential partners.
Among the eleven selected startups is Neurogut, developer of the BioAnatoner System, a clinically validated biofeedback therapy device built to address major pelvic floor disorders. The device targets conditions including dyssynergic defecation (a common form of chronic constipation), along with both fecal and urinary incontinence. What distinguishes the BioAnatoner from competing solutions is its dual-use design: the system functions equally well in clinical settings and in patients' homes.

Given that pelvic floor disorders affect more than 100 million Americans yet remain chronically underserved by existing therapies, Neurogut's platform is positioned to fill a significant gap. Company leadership has indicated plans to bring the BioAnatoner to market during 2026, with an initial focus on scaling distribution across clinical networks before pursuing broader consumer accessibility.
Neurogut's clinical direction has benefited from guidance provided by Dr. Satish Rao, a professor of medicine at Augusta University who has spent decades researching anorectal disorders, motility, and biofeedback-based treatments. Dr. Rao is widely credited with pioneering biofeedback therapy techniques for dyssynergic defecation, and his research contributions have earned him multiple honors from the AGA itself, including its Distinguished Clinician Award and Masters Award for Outstanding Clinical Research.
His advisory involvement extends beyond Neurogut. He also serves as a scientific advisor for GI Transit, another company within this incubator cohort that is developing bionic diagnostic devices for the upper gastrointestinal tract. Having a researcher of Dr. Rao's caliber connected to multiple companies in the same cohort speaks to the depth of clinical expertise informing this year's selected startups, and underscores how closely academic gastroenterology and early-stage medical technology are now intertwined.

As the incubator program progresses toward its culmination next spring, Neurogut and its cohort peers will continue refining their offerings with support from AGA and MATTER's combined resources, working toward the shared goal of transforming digestive disease care for millions of patients nationwide.
