EntSun News/11065708
~ Spokane, WA- On July 18th, 2025 at 8:40am, the Spokane Police Department (SPD) successfully apprehended Ian S. Richart (28) in the Spokane Valley on multiple charges. Richart was linked to a felony assault that occurred on June 27th in north Spokane. According to reports, Richart was armed with a handgun during the incident and had fled the scene before police arrived.

The arrest of Richart was made possible by the diligent efforts of members from the SPD Major Crimes Unit (MCU) and Special Investigations Unit (SIU). On July 16th, they received information that Richart was in an area just north of Downtown. Along with a female companion, later identified as Allie Alderson, Richart attempted to flee from officers in a vehicle. However, police continued their search for him.

In the early hours of July 18th, new information led officers to an apartment complex located at 2400 N Wilbur Rd in the Spokane Valley. Due to the fact that Richart was wanted for his involvement in the June 27th assault and was believed to still be armed, multiple specialty units were called in for assistance. This included City and County SWAT teams, Hostage Negotiators (HNT), Air Support Unit (ASU), and Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU).

The apartment complex was quickly surrounded as officers attempted to establish communication with Richart. While Alderson was detained at the location, Richart refused to respond to any communication attempts and barricaded himself inside an apartment. It was later discovered that he had gone up into an attic space and was still armed with a handgun. In his attempt to evade law enforcement, Richart broke into a neighboring apartment and briefly held one resident at gunpoint.

After several hours of negotiation attempts failed, officers finally located Richart in another attic space within the building. Due to the safety concerns, chemical munitions were introduced into the attic. Richart then fled from the attic and jumped down to the parking lot, attempting to escape on foot. However, he was quickly apprehended by officers and taken into custody.

Richart has been booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of 1st Degree Burglary, 1st Degree Kidnapping, and 1st Degree Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Alderson (27) was also arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail for Attempting to Elude a Police Vehicle and an unrelated felony warrant.

The successful arrest of Richart is credited to the outstanding work of all those involved in this operation. Their efforts have resulted in taking a dangerous individual off the streets and ensuring the safety of the public. Officer Daniel Strassenberg, from SPD's Public Information Office, commended everyone involved for their dedication and hard work in bringing Richart to justice.
