EntSun - Mar. 19, 2015 - Thomas J. Walter, serial entrepreneur, author, speaker and chief culture officer of the Chicago-area Tasty Catering will be speaking to Principles of Management classes in the College of Business Administration on March 30.
Walter has more than 40 years of experience as an owner and operator in the service industry. He has participated in the start-up of 30 companies, acquisition of three and in a few cases, the termination of businesses in broad spectrum markets. He remains a principal and advisor for several companies, most of which are part of 80 Nine Holdings andco-founded by his staff. These companies include:
• Tasty Catering—leading Chicago full-service catering company
• T.F. Processors—national food processing company
• That's Caring—socially-responsible, high-end gift company
• nuphoriq—marketing agency specializing in small & mid-sized businesses
• iMotorsports—motorcycle dealership with a nationwide reach
• Wahalla LLC, 1495 Tonne Venture, N44th, McCabe Venture—real estate entities

Walter is a national speaker and co-author of the award-winning book IT'S MY COMPANY TOO: How Entangled Companies Move Beyond Employee Engagement for Remarkable Results.
"I met Tom at a Human Synergistics Intl. Global Creative Change TED Talk in Chicago. He was the keynote speaker and thrilled everyone with his story," said Jim Smas, Walker's host and instructor of management for the College of Business Administration. "Since my upcoming class theme is motivation, what better way to influence students than by letting Tom discuss how he engages people of all walks of life, include former prisoners and felons who are given a new lease on life in his business. He operates at six sigma quality and has received numerous awards as the top place to work in Chicago. This is a story that is well worth hearing."
Walter's presentation is entitled, "The Five Factors Necessary to Achieve Maximum Employee Engagement: Leadership, Culture, Human Capital, Systems & Processes including Internal Communication and Financial Transparency, and Recognition and Reward = A Successful, Sustainable Organization."
