Texas: Governor Abbott Announces Latest Slate Of Appointments

~ This week, Governor Greg Abbott announced his selection of several qualified individuals to serve on behalf of Texans in various important roles. These appointments were made to the Council on Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke, the Quantum Initiative Advisory Committee, the Task Force on Modernizing Manufacturing, the Texas Industrialized Building Code Council, and the Texas School Safety Center Board.
For the Council on Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke, Governor Abbott appointed Christine Cox and Brittany Henson, as well as reappointed Remedios "Remmy" Perez Morris. Their terms will expire on February 1, 2031. Additionally, Jennifer Scott and Lauri Speirs were appointed to the board with terms set to expire on February 1, 2027. The Council's main responsibility is to develop a plan that effectively reduces the impact of cardiovascular disease and stroke in Texas while also being resource-efficient.
In regards to the Quantum Initiative Advisory Committee, Governor Abbott appointed Victor Fishman, Ph.D. and Lin Zhou, Ph.D. for terms ending on January 31, 2027. He also appointed Richard "Ross" Coffman for a term ending on January 31, 2029 and John Josephakis and Jeff Prevost, Ph.D. for terms ending on January 31, 2031. This committee will work towards creating a strategic plan to promote the quantum economy in Texas.

The Task Force on Modernizing Manufacturing will have Nathan Byman, Ian Weiswurm, Allan Couch, Thomas McNutt, Ryan Gustafson, Glenn Isbell Jason Shawhan Malena Gonzalez Joe Esparza Lacy Wolf Nahum Pacheco Salazar Jamie Moreno Monica Martinez Larry McManus serving as members until September 1st of 2027. Their main focus will be studying ways to modernize manufacturing in Texas.
Governor Abbott also made appointments to the Texas Industrialized Building Code Council by reappointing Suzanne Arnold Edwin "Scooter" Lofton Alex Morales Jorge Olivares John "Johnny" Scholl and W.F. "Dubb" Smith for terms ending on February 1, 2028. Additionally, Lee Ramsey was appointed to the Council with a term ending on February 1, 2027. This council is responsible for overseeing the state program that regulates industrialized housing and buildings.
Lastly, Governor Abbott appointed Jesus "Roberto" Rodriguez, Ph.D. and reappointed Bill Avera Edwin Flores, Ph.D., and Rania Mankarious to the Texas School Safety Center Board for terms ending on February 1, 2028. The board's role is to report to the Governor, legislature, State Board of Education, and Texas Education Agency on matters related to school safety and security. They also provide advice to the Center on its function, budget, and strategic planning initiatives.
