South Bend: Lafayette Boulevard Closure Continues Following Building Fire

June 8, 2026 ~ On Monday, a fire broke out at the Lafayette Building, causing major damage and prompting safety and structural inspections. As a result, Lafayette Boulevard will be closed between Jefferson Boulevard and Washington Street until further notice. In order to ensure the safety of the public, street and sidewalk restrictions will be implemented around the Lafayette Building. The west side sidewalk of Lafayette Boulevard will also be closed from Allegra Marketing Printing to Washington Street, while the east side sidewalk will remain open for access to the courts and County building. The detour route for drivers is Main Street via Washington Street or Jefferson Boulevard. These measures are being taken to prevent any potential hazards and allow for thorough inspections to take place.
