Music Producer Roger Greenawalt on Producing GiGi McCourt's Debut Album Coming Back to Me
EntSun News/11094269
Roger Greenawalt Known for his sharp ear, inventive arrangements, and deep understanding of artist development, Greenawalt helped shape the album's intimate yet expansive sound.
NEW YORK - EntSun -- When producer Roger Greenawalt first heard GiGi McCourt, two things stood out: the ukulele and her voice.
"The first time I heard GiGi, I thought ukulele, which I love, and a great voice," Greenawalt recalls. "I was excited to get the gig to produce her."
Greenawalt describes GiGi as "a precocious singer and songwriter from a literary family." As the granddaughter of Malachy McCourt and grandniece of Frank McCourt, GiGi brings a deep sense of language, memory, and emotional detail to her debut album, Coming Back to Me.
Recorded between Los Angeles and New York, the album combines carefully layered production with the warmth of live musicianship. "The process always affects the result," Greenawalt says.

Over time, Greenawalt watched GiGi grow more relaxed and confident in the studio. Her voice became central to the album's identity. "GiGi has an extremely phonogenic voice," he says. "It records beautifully. Good tone and pitch."
One standout track was "Anymore, Anymore," which Greenawalt names as a favorite. "The band all liked that song," he says.
For Greenawalt, the album's strength lies in the connection between words and music. "The lyrics always matter a lot," he says. "They are in constant dialogue with the music."
Asked to describe the project, Greenawalt calls Coming Back to Me "the opposite of AI" — a handmade record shaped by musicians, instinct, emotion, and collaboration.
"She's a unique artist," Greenawalt says of GiGi, describing her as "a unique particle in space."
With Coming Back to Me, GiGi McCourt steps forward with a debut album shaped by voice, songwriting, family legacy, and live musicianship.
