DENVER ~ Denver, Colorado - Governor Jared Polis and the Colorado Chamber of Commerce Foundation (Colorado Chamber) have joined forces to announce the formation of a new working group aimed at expediting the permitting process for developments that will reduce emissions in the manufacturing, energy production, and other industrial sectors. This collaborative effort brings together state agencies, businesses, and non-governmental organizations with the goal of cutting through red tape and promoting innovation in order to create jobs and protect the environment.
Governor Polis expressed his enthusiasm for this initiative, stating that "manufacturing, energy production, and transmission are vital components of Colorado's economy. This working group will not only support these industries but also safeguard our environment and clean air while creating well-paying jobs." He emphasized the importance of streamlining permitting processes in order to utilize innovation to reduce emissions. The governor also highlighted Colorado's success in utilizing clean energy sources and expressed his confidence that this working group will build upon that success to unlock new opportunities for economic growth while protecting the environment.

Loren Furman, President and CEO of the Colorado Chamber, echoed Governor Polis' sentiments by stating that "Colorado's business community is committed to protecting and preserving our environment." She emphasized the need for collaboration across sectors in order to make meaningful progress on complex environmental challenges. Furman also commended Governor Polis for his leadership in encouraging state agencies to engage with stakeholders and expressed her organization's eagerness to work together towards balanced solutions that reduce emissions while supporting economic growth.
This new working group was born out of Governor Polis' directive in April 2026 for state agencies to collaborate with each other and key stakeholders in identifying solutions to accelerate electrification and reduce emissions. Additionally, the Chamber's Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action Task Force recommended the formation of a work group as well. The aim is to cut through permitting red tape by facilitating coordinated discussions between state agencies, industry representatives, and non-governmental organizations.

The working group is comprised of representatives from various industries, including commercial buildings, oil and gas, manufacturing, waste management, utilities, and transportation. Non-governmental organizations such as Clean Air Task Force (CATF), The Nature Conservancy (TNC), and RMI are also involved. State agencies and divisions represented include the Air Pollution Control Division (APCD), Colorado Energy Office (CEO), Department of Local Affairs (DOLA), Energy and Carbon Management Commission (ECMC), Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT), Public Utilities Commission (PUC), and the Governor's Office.
The working group will convene monthly to focus on identifying opportunities to accelerate electrification and improve permitting processes for projects that reduce emissions. The ultimate goal is to provide greater regulatory certainty, support the environment, and enable the economy by ensuring sufficient energy and capacity to meet rising needs. With this collaborative effort between government agencies, businesses, and non-governmental organizations, Colorado is poised to become a leader in environmental policy while promoting economic growth.
