EntSun News/11078615
~ San Augustine, TX - Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the City of San Augustine has been designated as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Music Office (TMO). This designation comes after the city successfully completed a multi-step certification process. The Music Friendly Texas program, which was introduced by TMO in 2016, aims to promote music business-related economic development and job creation in cities and communities across Texas.
Governor Abbott congratulated the City of San Augustine on earning this prestigious designation, stating that the Texas music industry is responsible for over 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates more than $31 billion in annual economic activity statewide. He also expressed his commitment to working with communities across the state to create more job opportunities and boost economic growth.
Representative Trent Ashby also extended his congratulations to San Augustine, highlighting the city's unique blend of history, culture, and community that sets it apart from other cities in East Texas. He praised the city for embracing the arts and creating new opportunities for musicians and local businesses, which he believes will strengthen its economy and enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors.

San Augustine County Judge Jeff Boyd expressed his excitement at being designated as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community. He emphasized that music is a universal language that brings people together, making San Augustine an ideal location for musicians to showcase their talents. He also highlighted the city's central East Texas location, close proximity to Louisiana, and rich historical presence as additional reasons for visitors to come and experience all that San Augustine has to offer.
Betty Oglesbee, a board member of San Augustine Main Street, echoed Judge Boyd's sentiments about being designated as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community. She highlighted several public venues in the city that are perfect for musical productions, including the historic Augus Theatre where a Smithsonian Exhibit was previously displayed. She also mentioned other venues such as the freshly restored Cotton Gin Community Center and the soon-to-be-completed high school with a state-of-the-art venue for all types of productions.
The Music Friendly Texas Community Certification Ceremony, co-hosted by TMO, the City of San Augustine, and San Augustine Main Street, will take place on Friday, December 5 at 5:00 PM.
