Golfers Combat Winter Blues, Prepare for Spring Golf Season at CLAY Health Club + Spa

Golfers Improve Game with CLAY's Full-Swing Club and Body Tracking System
GREENWICH, Conn. - Feb. 12, 2018 - EntSun -- Golfers from Greenwich to Manhattan may have been disappointed when the groundhog saw his shadow this Groundhog's Day, but they're not wasting time waiting around for Spring to improve their game. For golfers who want to keep their skills sharp during the winter months, The Golf Club at CLAY Health Club + Spa delivers everything with their full-swing imaging system to capture and track the golfer's swing, and a highly trained staff which guides golfers in everything from the biomechanics of their swing, and fitness all the way to their personalized nutrition in an integrated approach to achieving each golfer's personal goals and delivering consistent results.
CLAY Director of Golf Michael Manavian develops athletes at every level from beginner to touring professional in order to achieve their goals, through a combination of attention to motor learning, biomechanics, and deep analysis of technique using the revolutionary GEARs motion capture system.
Brought to CLAY in 2014, the GEARs system is a full-swing club and body tracking system, used by industry leading PGA professionals, club fitters, and club manufacturers to measure and analyze every nuance of a swing. The system, one of few available in the United States, delivers tangible benefits to golfers at all skill levels. "It's extremely accurate. Every angle is measured to a hundredth of a millimeter, and every joint is measured to a hundredth of a degree," said Manavian. "Its motion capture software is no different than what they use in Hollywood to make movies like Avatar and War of the Worlds."

Players wear a motion-capture suit with over 30 sensors placed strategically on both the player's body and the club, and eight ultra-HD cameras capture over 600 images per shot, to assess the biomechanics of each swing in great detail. The GEARs system at CLAY was profiled in a December 2016 issue of Met Golfer, the official publication of the Metropolitan Golf Association. In the article, Manavian described the system, noting "It's about getting the client exactly what they need, without guessing."
After hooking up players to the system, Manavian guides the player through their swing analytics, and then interprets the massive amount of data the system generates instantly in order to increase the efficiency of their strike. And when winter is over and players hit the links, they can take that functionality with them, with the world's first set of smart clubs featuring Cobra Connect powered by Arccos. The system provides a sensor to be placed inside the grip of every club, and transmits data directly to the cloud via the player's phone. "My students not only work here on their golf swing in 3D, they can go out into the real world and capture real world data, and I can look at their rounds from my software to see how they are playing, and program out what we will work on to ensure continued improvement."

CLAY has been featured in several local publications, including The Greenwich Sentinel, which recently profiled Manavian, along with CLAY's own Director of Performance, Ali Gilbert, who was named to Golf Digest Magazine's top 50 Best Golf Fitness Professionals list. CLAY's Eric Manning, a PGA professional, also penned an article in January's edition of Met Golfer, the official publication of the Metropolitan Golf Association. In his instructional article titled "Controlled Contact," Eric offers expert advice on how to keep in practice during the winter months with some simple indoor drills.
