Colorado: Governor Polis Appoints R. Reid Stewart to the 6th Judicial District Court and Anthony D. Edwards to the Archuleta County Court

DENVER ~ In a move to fill two vacancies in the 6th Judicial District, Governor Jared Polis has appointed R. Reid Stewart and Anthony D. Edwards to the district court and county court, respectively.
Stewart, who currently serves as a La Plata County Court Judge in the 6th Judicial District, will be taking on the role of district court judge effective January 2, 2026. This appointment comes after the retirement of Chief Judge Jeffrey R. Wilson.
Stewart brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having previously served as a Deputy District Attorney in the 6th Judicial District Attorney's Office for over a decade. He also has experience as an associate attorney at various law firms and as an Assistant District Attorney in Texas. Stewart holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Juris Doctorate from Texas Wesleyan School of Law.

Joining Stewart on the bench is Anthony D. Edwards, who has been appointed to the Archuleta County Court in the 6th Judicial District effective immediately. Edwards currently serves as a San Juan County Court Judge in the same district and also works as an attorney at Sholler Edwards, LLC.
In addition to his legal career, Edwards also serves as a Municipal Judge/Liquor Licensing Hearing Officer for the Town of Silverton and as a Municipal Judge for the Town of Pagosa Springs. His docket primarily consists of criminal matters while his private practice focuses on natural resources, real estate, employment, insurance, and estate law. Edwards holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Capella University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of New Mexico.
Governor Polis expressed confidence in both appointments stating that their extensive experience and dedication to justice will serve them well in their new roles within the 6th Judicial District. The appointments have been met with positive reactions from colleagues and members of the legal community who believe that Stewart and Edwards will make valuable contributions to the district court and county court.
