Chicago: Mayor Brandon Johnson, Fire Commissioner Nance-Holt Graduate 70 New Firefighters And Fire Paramedics

CHICAGO ~ Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Chicago Fire Department Commissioner Annette Nance-Holt came together today to celebrate the graduation of 55 Firefighter EMTs and 15 Fire Paramedics from the Fire Academy. The ceremony, held at Navy Pier, was a momentous occasion for both the graduates and the city of Chicago.

In his speech, Mayor Johnson expressed his pride in welcoming these new first responders to the Chicago Fire Department family. He emphasized their dedication and bravery, stating that they will be a valuable asset to the community. The candidates graduating today have completed an intensive six-month training course at the Robert Quinn Fire Academy. This training includes courses for certification as an emergency medical technician (EMT) as well as Illinois Firefighter or Fire Paramedic. Along with basic firefighting skills, they have also been trained in confined space operations, search and rescue techniques, extrication methods, and coordinating medical services with other agencies.

Before joining the Fire Department, paramedics are required to be licensed by an accredited institution. The new members will begin their district assignments with CFD Emergency Medical Services this month. They will be assigned to various firehouses based on department needs and lottery selection.
