Chicago: Mayor Brandon Johnson And Department Of Business Affairs And Consumer Protection Announce Cut The Tape For Small Business
EntSun News/11078576
CHICAGO ~ Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) have announced a new initiative aimed at supporting small businesses in the city. The program, called Cut the Tape for Small Business, is a comprehensive effort to update and streamline administrative processes in order to make it easier and faster for small businesses to open and operate in Chicago.
This initiative builds upon the success of Mayor Johnson's Cut the Tape program, which has already implemented over 100 actions to streamline housing and commercial development processes. With Cut the Tape for Small Business, the focus is now on uplifting and empowering small businesses across Chicago.
In a statement, Mayor Johnson expressed his excitement for this new initiative, stating that there is no better way to celebrate Small Business Saturday than by addressing the concerns of small business owners and entrepreneurs who contribute to making Chicago a leading economic hub. He also emphasized that this program aligns with his administration's ongoing efforts to modernize and improve the responsiveness of City government.
BACP Commissioner Ivan Capifali also shared his enthusiasm for Cut the Tape for Small Business, highlighting how it demonstrates their dedication to supporting the thriving small business ecosystem in Chicago. He stated that BACP is committed to being responsive and adaptive to the needs of entrepreneurs at every stage of their business.

The main goals of Cut the Tape for Small Business are focused on improving City processes and programs by reducing costs, time burdens, and barriers that small businesses face in neighborhood corridors across Chicago. This includes developing clear guidance for business owners navigating pre-licensing City inspections, simplifying licensing and permitting processes through digitization, streamlining administrative debt checks, creating an interactive online zoning map, exploring new regulation frameworks for emerging industries, leveraging cultural storytelling and cross-corridor marketing strategies for neighborhood tourism, eliminating information silos between City departments, collaborating with City Colleges of Chicago to provide education programs for entrepreneurs, and launching a digital literacy initiative targeting under-resourced entrepreneurs.
This initiative is a clear demonstration of the City's renewed commitment to fostering growth and promoting long-term success for small businesses. BACP conducted regional roundtables with Neighborhood Business Development Centers and local business owners to identify the immediate and long-term priorities of the small business community.
